Enlightened people don’t view science as anything but a tool

May 9, 2014

To continue reframing other people’s words, here’s my restatement of Neil DeGrasse Tyson:

The issue there is not religion versus non-religion or religion versus science, the issue there is ideas that are different versus dogma. If you start using science, your research as a source of inspiration or meaning, that’s where you run into problems. There is no example of someone reading their research and saying ‘I have a belief about hope and my place in the world that no one knows yet because this gave me insight.’ Enlightened scientists know this, and don’t try to use the science as anything but a useful tool.
